Hi, I’m Maria. I help people find and focus on themselves so they can transition to a healthier lifestyle.

I’m more than a diet coach. I’m a lifestyle coach. And I believe that re-discovering who you are and finding your fitness mission is the best way for you to fall in love with being healthier and embrace a sustainable healthy lifestyle, not just for the short term, but for your entire life.

Everyone wants to lose weight and look good, but when you dig deep and uncover the real reasons why—that’s when you hit gold. That’s the point where self-realization meets nutrition and exercise. It’s not about a quick fix. It’s about shifting to a healthier lifestyle that you never want to quit.

I get where you are. For most of my life, thinking about eating or my body left me sad, deprived, and defeated. I blamed myself. I blamed my body. I didn’t love myself.

My moment of truth came when I was 43 years old. I had no confidence or self-esteem. I had been putting myself dead last on my list of priorities for years, and it had taken its toll. I was caught in a cycle of feeling uncomfortable and hating how I looked and then eating to fill the void that left inside of me.

I weighed 258 pounds at the time. I felt isolated. I felt like my body was betraying me. Sadly, I didn’t have the energy to be upbeat and give my 13-year-old son the best of me, and I was ashamed.

The worst part was that I didn’t know that it was possible for me to feel any other way.

When I went with my son to his school picnic at a local amusement park, I tried to get on the Racer—my son’s favorite roller coaster. The attendant had to shove the latch down. I didn’t fit.

I was mortified.

I knew that day that I had to make a change. I was already at risk for type 2 diabetes—my doctor had recently informed me of that. And I had a family history of heart problems.

I knew I couldn’t miss out on my son growing up.

I got my family’s support and took charge of my health by making small changes over time and fixing my mindset. This 6-step approach is the same one that I focus on for my clients to help them develop a permanent lifestyle, just like I did.

It was tough at first: I could only walk ¼ mile before my knees hurt and I got tired. But I started making better choices when I ate, and that eventually allowed me to walk farther and farther.

But I knew that true change would come from involving my whole body in exercise.

I was afraid I would be the only person in the gym who didn’t look like Arnold Schwarzenegger or Heidi Klum, but I finally got the courage to join. I hired a trainer who showed me how to use the equipment and how to do the exercises with proper form. His initial support helped me lose more weight AND start loving how I felt when I worked out.

I formed a positive cycle that replaced the negative cycle of self-doubt and eating. And I felt good about myself for the first time in a long time.

And this let me do things that I never imagined I would be able to do: the Pittsburgh Half-Marathon, Philadelphia Triathlon, EQT 10-Miler, and so much more!

When I made myself a priority, I discovered that, not only was I making healthier choices and caring for myself the way I cared for others, but I was also able to help so many more people. It’s just not feasible to treat yourself like you don’t matter and then give everything you have to others. Soon, you’ll be running on empty, and it will show . . . even where it matters most.

Education and Certifications

Maria is an ISSA Certified Fitness Trainer and Fitness Nutritionist, Precision Nutrition Certified Nutritionist, NESTA Lifestyle Weight Management Specialist, and Certified MP Metabolic Nutritionist. Most importantly, Maria’s real-life experience and self-education of overcoming a lifetime struggle of emotional eating is the foundation of her success with her clients. Professionally, Maria was recognized by GNC in 2013 as one of its most inspiring and transformational employees. 

Maria realized that the key to a more fulfilling life is making yourself a top priority. In doing so, she went from someone who spent much of her day static to an accomplished Olympic Triathlete, Half Marathoner, and award winning Fitness Competitor.

Maria served on the American Heart Association’s Executive Leadership Team and was past chair of the Passion Committee for Go Red for Women, Pittsburgh Chapter. She can also hold her own on the red carpet, having been a spokesmodel for the American Heart Association’s Annual Go Red for Women Pittsburgh Fashion Show.

My Philosophy


What does it really take to accomplish a significant weight loss goal like losing more than a hundred pounds of body fat or overcoming a lifetime struggle of an unhealthy relationship with food? Well most people would say go on a diet, read a self-help book or just set a goal and work towards it. Yes, goals are great but when faced with more than 100 pounds of weight loss this can be daunting and it’s not going on a “diet” or reading a self-help book. And, there is no such thing as a diet or the best diet. It’s about transitioning to a healthy, sustainable lifestyle and positively impacting how you look, function and feel. Ultimately, helping you find Wellness for Life.

As a Healthy Lifestyle Coach, I help my clients achieve Wellness for Life based on two concepts: Practicing daily habits to build skills and Building skills to achieve goals.  Do this well and you can accomplish your goals more quickly (with less effort) and maintain your results. Most importantly enjoy the journey versus thinking about how are you going to get there. Slow and steady wins the race.
